Risk analysis is a crucial previous step for executive protection in Travel Security Strategies LATAM.
During 8 days a VIP Executive from United Arab Emirates visited Caracas, Venezuela for several business and social meetings. Previuos risk analysis done by the security team included: road conditions, secure points like hospitals, schools and military bases. Also in a city as Caracas with high social and political risk levels alternate routes for meeting points, airport and hotel are crucial.
A meeting with the security chief of the hotel takes place as part of the previous risk analysis. In this meeting physical and perimetral security is assesed, communication channels with local authorities and Travel Security Strategies and an inspection of the CCTV system. Other aspects such as the hotel´s security protocol, emergency exits that are free from blockage and fire and smoke alarm system in bedrooms.
For VIP executives its safer to previously coordinate a vip access for check in to avoid risky delays and guarantee our client a more efficient process. A secure and strategic parking space is reserved in case of an emergency evacuation from the hotel.
This same previous risk analysis is done for places were business meetings and social events such as restaurants and bars would take place.
After completing the executive protection risk analysis and according to the specific security needs of the client, the security company decides to asign a 4×4 armored (level IV) SUV with a bilingual security driver and bilingual EP agent to the security scheme. This vehicle had a first aid kit, tools kit, bullet proof vest and satellite phone. All this supported by direct communication with a 24/7 operations centre were an extra armored vehicle with a security driver is waiting in case of a security event with the client.
When the VIP Executive arrived to Caracas, the security agent gave him a complete security briefing about the risks he could face in the city of Caracas and the possible hazards that could appear, with the appropriate measures to take in case o an incident and how he must act to protect himself and avoid being captured or injured. He is also given a local cell phone with the local emergency numbers, operation centre and members of his personal security squeme activated, to keep an accertive and permanent communication.
Once the service is active, the security driver and EP agent maintain permanent contact with the security company and operations centre about the clients movements around Caracas to ensure that the whole security team in charge is constantly aware of the executive´s position.
During the 8 days of the service, there were no security incidents and the security team was able to take the client on time to all his meetings avoiding roads with blockages or severe traffic by takinf alternate routes, because of several protests taking place during those days. There were some power blackouts which were confronted with power backup to be able to attend any security incident efficiently.
Finally the day the executive from United Arab Emirates was taking his flight back home, various airline delays and flight cancellations took place, so the security team stood active with the client until it was confirmed that his flight was on route for at least 30 minutes. Until that moment and not before, the service ended successfully.
