Which countries in Latin America still show a high risk level for COVID19?
Today we face a constant changing situation in the region due to the different risks in each country due to COVID19. It’s important to check measures and travelling requirements being taken in Central and South America before travelling. The travel experience has drastically changed, and travelers must be prepared in advance. We could say spontaneity has disappeared from the picture whereas for travelling to any part of the world today.
Hardly hit by the pandemic, but today nearly full recovered. Borders are expected to open in October and international airports in November.
Even though international borders remain closed, Uruguay is one of the Latin American countries which has recovered fastest and presents lowest infection numbers. Business and schools are operating completely. International travelers are expected to be able to enter this country by end October.
As COVID19 cases remain high, international frontiers will stay closed and quarantine restrictions have been activated since Oct.
Argentina is a high risk level country for COVID19
Coastal areas of Peru have been the most hit by the pandemic in this country and it has presented one of the highest number of cases (856,000 today). Hotels and restaurants remain closed and international flights are planned to start operations by the end of October. Peru is a high-risk level country regarding COVID19 situation.
Travelers from abroad will be asked to bring a recent negative test to enter Peru and local PCR test stations will be available around the country.
As it was very little affected by the pandemic and quickly recovered, Costa Rica activated international borders since August and even some European airlines are already having flights to this destination. Even though things are smooth in this country all foreigners must present a negative test upon arrival. As medical attention is not so efficient in Costa Rica, international medical insurance is recommended.
COVID19 has never been under control but international borders and frontiers have never closed. There is a high-risk level of contagious and travelers must take all the international precaution measures. Once visitors return to their home countries, they must keep the 14-day quarantine.
With more than 600,000 cases, Mexico and Brazil are the most affected countries in Latin America. There have been no restrictions whatsoever and no negative test is required to enter the country. In general, the government has simply looked the other way and strangely their number of cases is coming down.
High risk level country
Reopened international flights in September and no quarantine is needed upon arrival of international travelers, only a negative PCR test with no more than 96 hours. Masks are mandatory in public spaces and social distancing has been imposed in hotels and restaurants
The first country to reopen international borders after the pandemic (August), but land frontiers with Peru and Colombia remain closed as these countries present a high risk level of COVID19. To protect locals, a 14 day quarantine is required on arrival to Ecuador unless a negative test result is presented (within the last 72 hours) and travelers must assume the cost.
Slowly starting to reactivate since September with restaurants and domestic flights some international flights since October. Negative PCR tests are also requiring for international travelers who enter Panama.
With very good results in cases, Nicaragua had its infectious peak in June and has been recovering positively and as summer approaches, the dry weather will help the situation to keep improving and there has been no official quarantine, so citizens mobility is free in urban areas. International frontiers are open, but a negative PCR test is required to enter.
Borders, hotels, and restaurants started a gradual reopening since September and travelers to Guatemala must show a PCR test certificate and complete a health form.
Probably because of the dry Caribbean weather Belize has been lucky and very few COVID19 cases have been registered. All hotels, restaurants and international airport are operating normally.
