- Bogota has a high risk of theft, street assaults, vehicle theft and residential robberies. There has been an increase of theft and street assault due to Venezuelans presence.
- Most of these crimes are opportunistic; they happen in mass transit stations, some tourist areas and close to business locations.
- The use of strong sedatives (scopolamine) to commit crimes has been reported in some bars and clubs. Do not leave your food or drink unattended.
- The rate of violent crime is high; however, they happen particularly in low-income neighborhoods. When this is not the case, they are related to drug trafficking or revenge.
- Business travelers and foreigners should lower their profile, and limit their routine to the areas of business and low-risk areas of the city.
- Terrorist risk remains, although it is low.
